Useful Tips

  1. Before taking photographs of people and their house always ask permission. Some people will demand a tip if you take their photo.
  2. Conceal your money in a money belt or pouch under your clothes.
  3. Never change money on the street or in the black market. Always exchange it at banks, foreign bureaux or hotels.
  4. Remember that wild animals are ‘wild’, and always keep your distance, even if they appear harmless.
  5. Giving money to street kids and mothers is discouraged.
  6. Be vigilant when withdrawing money from ATMs. Do not accept any help from any one, and if you suspect the presence of a skimmer, do not use the ATM machine.
  7. If visiting neighbouring Tanzania or Zanzibar, a Yellow Fever Certificate is a must.
