- Nairobi means ‘place of cool waters’ and was originally a swamp. It is now known as the ‘Green City in the sun’.
- Nairobi is home to the Nairobi National Park, the only game park of its kind to border a capital city - one minute you are exiting the international airport on arrival, the next you are viewing some of the wild animals at the park.
- Kenya is home to over forty two different tribes. Nairobi is a convergence place for three main tribes; the Kikuyu, who are the largest tribe in Kenya and are found through out Central Kenya; the Kambas, famous for their wood curving skills and occupy the Eastern part of the country; and the Maasai who do not need introduction and live in the Rift Valley region.
- Kenya is famous for wildlife, tea and coffee, warm coastal waters of the Indian Ocean, for long distance runners, and great weather! Kenya is also yet to lose in the Olympic steeplechase!
- The most famous Kenyan is Wangari Mathai, winner of the 2004 Nobel Peace Prize.
- You can foster an orphaned elephant at Daphne Sheldrick's Wildlife Trust for as little as $50.
- It is an offense for a pedestrian to talk on a mobile phone while crossing the road in nairobi. A fine of Ksh 500 or USD 7 will be charged. About 80% of Nairobi residents are unaware of this rule.
- Presidentil elections take place in Kenya every five years. December 2007 was the worst disputed elections that almost led to a civil war. More than 1300 people were killed and more than 350,000 others displaced in the fighting.
- Majority of Nairobians have the habit of chewing toothpicks endlessly long after a meal is over. A number of them would like to create an impression that meat was part of their meal but very often that is not the case. Meat is a treasured food item but not affordable by majority of people and households; unlike in the West where many people prefer to be Vegetarians.
- A zabra can mate with a donkey? The result is called a Zedonk!
- Kenya wildlife Society run an animal adoption Programme? Jamaican Sprinter Usain Bolt last year adopted a cheetah when he visited the country!
- Despite the hundreds of Ghost workers at the Nairbi city Council which responsible for the cleanliness and order of the town, Nairobi is Five Times cleaner and orderly than it was Five Years ago thanks to performing Mayors during the current Political regime.
- Uhuru park received such a huge face lift after the August 27th Promulgation day for the New Constitution. A Jumbo Kenya Flag was set at the Hill and word has it that it will be there to stay.
